Bother Beads

There was a time not that long ago when I went through a phase of anxiety. I found going out daunting and even walking down the street could feel like it took a great deal of strength and determination. It was during this time I decided that I needed something simple to help me cope in whatever situation I was in.

It needed to be subtle and something that I could do without people noticing. It also needed to be quick, easy and effective. This was how Bother Beads came to life. I found this method so helpful that I decided to share them in the hope that they may help some children (and adults) who find themselves experiencing similar emotions.

The concept is simple. Whenever you are feeling anxious or stressed hold your beads in your hand and starting at the Kingdom House start to work your way through the beads. For each bead that you hold think of something that you are grateful for or happy about, once you have done this move on to the next bead and do the same. The challenge is to move as many beads as you can from the Kingdom House.

Due to the neurological make up of the brain it is virtually impossible to hold a positive and a negative thought in the mind at the same time so by focusing on the gratitude represented by each bead the mind will naturally begin to dispel feelings of anxiety and negativity as its neural pathways begin to shift in a more positive direction.

Simple, effective and from my own personal experience proven to work time and time again … I still use them to this very day when things feel a bit big and daunting!
